Overview
Scott Richey, a former US patent examiner, is an accomplished trial attorney with a sharp focus on patent and trade secret litigation. He litigates in various venues, including federal courts, the US International Trade Commission, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Scott takes an active role in every case, developing strategic approaches, working with experts, deposing fact and expert witnesses, arguing motions, and representing and cross-examining key witnesses at trial. In addition, Scott represents clients before the US Patent and Trademark Office, including the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and also handles matters in licensing, trade dress, and copyright law.
Leveraging his deep technical background in physics, electrical systems, and computer programming, he adeptly handles high-tech cases. His experience encompasses areas such as semiconductor-based devices, radio-frequency (RF) devices, cryptography, blockchain, radiation delivery, utilities infrastructure, tire pressure monitoring, digital signal processing, and wireless communications.
Outside the courtroom, Scott is an avid pilot with a passion for computer programming and electronics, particularly remote sensors and the Internet of things. This passion fuels his ability to understand and advocate for his clients’ needs, especially in cases involving cutting-edge technology. As the founder and former president of the Euler Consortium, a non-registered investment club, Scott brings a unique perspective to his practice that affords insights into company financials and damages analysis. These insights have further been honed in financial services litigation, where he effectively handles disputes involving various securities and investments.

- Coda Development S.R.O. v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Case No. 5:15-1572 (N.D. Ohio.). Represented plaintiff at trial for trade secret misappropriation where jury returned a favorable verdict of $64 million.
- In the Matter of Certain Semiconductor Devices and Consumer Audiovisual Products Containing the Same, Investigation No. 337-TA-1047 (USITC). Represented complainant in Section 337 investigation of patent infringement by systems-on-chip found in various in-vehicle infotainment systems.
- Transtex LLC and Transtex Composite Inc. v. WABCO Holdings Inc. and Laydon Composites Ltd., Case No. 2:17-cv-12793 (E.D. Mich.). Represented plaintiff in competitor lawsuit for patent infringement by aerodynamic fairings.

- Schrader Electronics, Inc. and Schrader-Bridgeport International, Inc. v. Continental Automotive Systems US Inc., Case No. 2:12-CV-10715 (E.D. Mich.). Represented defendant in successfully invalidating asserted patent involving multi-communication protocols for wireless pressure monitoring.
