Christopher Suarez, Lee Berger, Ronan Scanlan, and Rachel Carlo co-authored an article that appeared in Competition Policy International's TechREG CHRONICLE, "Agentic AI: Future Issues at the Intersection of Technology, Innovation, and Competition Policy."
Agentic AI enables autonomous task completion with minimal supervision, offering major benefits in automation and efficiency. However, it also raises competition concerns, such as potential monopolization by dominant providers, AI-facilitated collusion, and anticompetitive behavior without human input. These risks are global, affecting the US, UK, EU, and beyond. Interoperability between AI agents is crucial but may introduce challenges related to intellectual property and licensing. As agentic AI evolves, it adds complexity to competition policy, requiring careful consideration by practitioners to balance innovation with fair market practices.
