The article analyzes the CFTC’s first civil and administrative fraud cases pursued in environmental commodity markets by the agency’s Environmental Fraud Task Force. The actions crystallized the agency’s expressed interest in improving confidence in voluntary carbon markets by pursuing fraud-related cases – a pursuit that is expected to continue under new leadership despite the recent reorganization of the Division of Enforcement’s task forces.
