Overview
Vito Arethusa is an associate in Steptoe's GAPP group. He counsels clients in the financial services sector on a variety of regulatory matters, including compliance with regulations related to capital markets, digital assets, and financial products and services. He advises clients on matters before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and other federal financial regulatory agencies. In addition, Vito engages with regulatory agencies through advocacy efforts, ranging from meeting with agency staff to helping draft, prepare, and submit comment letter in response to rulemakings and/or statements for the record for Congressional hearings.
Vito graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a staff member of Georgetown Journal for Law & Modern Critical Race Perspectives, Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and Muslim Law Students Association. Prior to his Summer Associate role at Steptoe, he also served as a legal intern for Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center, where he provided support to indigent clients in the DMV area, conducting intake interviews and advising on their immigration-related legal issues.

- Advised a national industry trade association and prepared comment letters in response to proposed and final rulemaking implementation.
- Advised multinational financial services corporations to update their policies and procedures in response to credit card rulemaking.
- Advised a digital currency exchange and prepared an anti-money laundering/sanctions compliance and digital token (crypto) listing policy.
- Drafted a pro bono amicus brief for a political law trial on behalf of interested national political and business leaders.
- Advising a regional utility company on updating their FERC/CFTC compliance program related to energy derivatives trading.
