Overview
Compliance Week quoted Zoe Osborne in an article titled, “Experts: By Narrowing FCPA Enforcement, DOJ Expands Bribery Threats, Risks.” The article looks at how in new guidance issued June 9, the DOJ decided to significantly narrow the scope of FCPA enforcement, saying it will launch investigations into bribery only when the schemes negatively affect US interests.
Speaking to Compliance Week about inquiries from clients about FCPA compliance and what this means for the UK and EU Osborne said, “We had queries from clients to the effect of, can we now ignore compliance? The answer, of course, was no. Most big bribery actions over the past 10 years have been led by the DOJ. Whether the UK and EU can step up to the plate, without the same resources as the US, remains to be seen.”
