Steptoe partners Zoe Osborne, Alexandra Melia and John Rupp wrote an article for In-House Lawyer titled "Corporate criminal liability in the UK: is change in the air?" This article addresses a consultation launched by the Law Commission into proposals to reform corporate criminal liability in the UK. In this article, the authors consider the current position in relation to UK corporate criminal liability, criticism levelled against the current law, proposals for reform, and thoughts as to the effect that any reform of the law may have. The authors also offer their thoughts as to the risk mitigation steps that companies could take in the event that the scope of corporate criminal liability is widened.
