On June 26, 2023, Financial Times quoted partner Renato Antonini in an article titled, "Ukraine/Russia: EU should shun rough justice in reparations." The article discusses the methods European countries are considering in seeking reparations from Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Europe may risk violating the principle of sovereign immunity by seizing Russian funds, which would be a hazardous precedent to set.
Renato said: "A watered-down EU approach might involve creaming off returns from Russia's frozen assets, leaving the principal intact. But this would suffer the same legal snag: profits are held to be a function of the ownership of an asset."
