Overview
(July 30, 2025, Washington, DC) — Steptoe obtained a significant victory on behalf of its client, American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT)—a leading software and services company for travel, expense, and meetings & events, operated by Global Business Travel Group, Inc. (NYSE: GBTG)—by securing the dismissal of the United States Department of Justice's (DOJ) complaint challenging Amex GBT's proposed acquisition of CWT.
Steptoe's antitrust team represented Amex GBT throughout the DOJ Antitrust Division's investigation and, in collaboration with Skadden, in the subsequent litigation. The DOJ's decision to dismiss the complaint marks a significant milestone in the transaction process and clears the path for Amex GBT to move forward with its acquisition of CWT, a global business travel and meetings solutions provider.
The Steptoe team representing Amex GBT was led by Michael Weiner, and included partner Lee Berger and associates Weisiyu Jiang, Travis West, Rachel Carlo, Andrew Magloughlin, Madi Carr, and Peyton Thomas.
