Overview
Law360 quoted Zoe Osborne in an article titled, "SFO Bribery Case Could Test Unanswered Legal Principles." The article discusses how the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has charged United Insurance Brokers with failing to prevent its associates from paying bribes in Ecuador — the first time the agency is preparing to go to trial over the adequacy of a company's compliance programs.
Speaking to Law360 about the timing of the SFO's decisions Osborne said, "Despite the SFO's assertions that its current actions are not in response to Trump's [Foreign Corrupt Practices Act] pause, the timing of things like the task force, the charge against UIB, the SFO's business plan, self-reporting, suggests otherwise — that the SFO is clearly signaling it's open for business and willing to fill any voids."
