Overview
On November 29, 2023, Law360 quoted Zoe Osborne in a piece titled "HMRC's £585M DPA Signals A New Bribery Cop In Town." The article discusses the mammoth bribery settlement reached by Entain, the owner of gambling businesses Ladbrokes and Coral, with Britain's tax collector, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The £585m deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) is the first such deal not struck by the UK Serious Fraud Office and will become the second largest recorded in the UK. The most recent DPA is viewed as a significant milestone for HRMC and its aim to pursue large and complex investigations on an international scale.
Commenting on the development Zoe Osborne said "It signals that the agencies are willing to use all powers available to them, and I think it also gives the agencies confidence and momentum to use the powers going forward."
