Overview
(August 16, 2024, Washington, DC) – Steptoe announces that the firm raised $80,693 for the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia's 2024 Making Justice Real Campaign. Steptoe came in second place among the firms in its size category and 12thplace out of the over 75 DC law firms that participated in the campaign.
“The Steptoe team brought great energy to the Campaign and really came together to make a huge difference for people in the District who are struggling with a legal issue. Steptoe’s support for Legal Aid's clients means so much to us, and we’re grateful for the firm's remarkable generosity this year,” said Rob Pergament, Director of Development, Legal Aid DC.
Legal Aid relies on private donors to continue and expand their work, and the Making Justice Real Campaign accounts for about 30 percent of their annual budget. With Steptoe’s and other DC law firms’ help, the Campaign raised over $3.7 million in total this year.
Steptoe's campaign was led by associates Sam McCarthy, Meredith Lewis, and Cannon Jurrens, along with Steptoe partner Leah Quadrino, who serves as a member of the board of trustees of the Legal Aid Society.
"The campaign leaders did a fantastic job in inspiring our people to give generously" said Steptoe pro bono partner Paul Lee. "We know that these funds will be put to excellent use by the very capable team at Legal Aid and will go far in providing critical legal representation to our neighbors in need."
Public service at Steptoe is an integral part of our history, ethos, and operations. The principle of increasing access to justice guides our pro bono efforts. Steptoe is a charter signatory to the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge, and was one of the first law firms to establish a position for a lawyer with full-time responsibility overseeing the firm's pro bono program. Steptoe's commitment to pro bono contributed to the firm being named Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year in 2023 by the DC Bar.
