Overview
(May 27, 2025, Los Angeles) – Steptoe was recognized with a 2025 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) award by the Daily Journal. The award is given to the California attorney teams who have handled the most impactful litigation over the last year.
Steptoe was recognized for its work as co-counsel with the ACLU SoCal in Mark S. v. California, a civil rights case addressing discriminatory disciplinary practices and advocating for supportive learning environments for students. The case, brought against Pittsburg Unified School District and the California Department of Education, resulted in a far-reaching settlement agreement that holds institutions accountable and affirms the rights of students with disabilities.
The Steptoe team included partner Robyn Crowther, associates Nicolena Farias-Eisner, Geoffrey Warner, Danika Duffy, Jefferson Klocke, and Emma Staats, paralegal Magda Wielkopolska, practice support analyst Danny Huerta, and pre-law fellow Andrew Ortiz Calderon.
