Our first symposium, held in May 2019, was widely acknowledged for achieving two interrelated goals: public/private sector convergence and dialogue across regulated industries. We wanted to straddle the divides among regulated industries (such as energy, telecommunications, transportation, and finance) and recognize the common principles, risks, opportunities that underlie each body of regulation. We also wanted to do so from the twin perspectives of the regulators and the companies operating in these industries themselves. We are confident we can replicate the success and achieve these objectives in an online format. 

As last year, the symposium's goal is to bring together regulators and industry luminaries from many fields of regulated activity - energy, environment, finance, telecommunications and transportation - for an informal, freewheeling discussion of regulatory risks and opportunities that straddle agencies and industries. Our overarching theme this year falls on the opportunity side of the opportunity/risk divide. Regulation by "carrot?" What is it? How has it been implemented, agency by agency? Can it supplant regulatory "sticks?"
