Overview
Jacob Michalakes advises clients on intellectual property issues. Primarily focused on patent litigation, Jake has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in federal district courts. He also has experience with Section 337 investigations before the US International Trade Commission (ITC). He has handled presuit investigations, pleadings, fact and expert discovery, hearings, dispositive motions, pre-trial preparation, and trial.
In addition to patent litigation, Jake has counseled clients on their IP portfolios. This has included conducting due diligence in preparation for an acquisition, managing domestic and international patent dockets, and advising on the patentability of proposed innovations.
Jacob represents clients in intellectual property matters across a variety of technological areas. He has experience with medical devices, drug research equipment, chemical indicators, consumer electronics, wireless communication protocols, semiconductors, and mechanical systems.
Prior to his legal career, Jake worked in a behavioral neuroscience research lab at the University of Dayton that focused on advancing understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying debilitating neuropsychiatric disorders.
