Overview
Steptoe's success for a Russian bank at the London High Court was covered by the Financial Times in a July 11 article titled "High Court Bars Otkritie Co-founder from Disposing of Assets."
On June 28, National Bank Trust filed a lawsuit in the High Court of Justice in London against Boris Mints and his sons to recover damages in excess of US $700 million. On July 11, the court granted the bank a freezing order prohibiting the defendants from disposing $572 million of their assets. The court's ruling, which has the same effect as a freezing order, will continue until trial. The co-plaintiff in this case is PJSC Otkritie Bank.
Boris Mints was the co-founder of Otkritie, which was Russia's largest privately held bank by assets before its 2017 nationalization.
Steptoe London partner Neil Dooley represents National Bank Trust in this matter.
