Overview
Steptoe partners Michael Miller and Sandra Hanna, and associates Evelyn Hudson and Myles Ashong authored an article titled, "The Martin Act: Blue Skies for New York Prosecutors and Regulators," which appeared in the New York Law Journal.
The article is the second in a series of three Steptoe articles looking at the tools available to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the New York State Attorney General's Office to fight white-collar crime if the federal government shifts its criminal and regulatory enforcement priorities. This article focuses on New York State’s securities fraud statute – the Martin Act – which offers New York prosecutors and regulators powerful tools for combatting fraud on investors and the markets, including schemes involving insider trading, market manipulation, and fraudulent disclosure.
