Overview
Myles Ashong represents corporate and individual clients in internal and government-facing investigations and white-collar defense matters.
His experience spans all phases of government enforcement, from pre-indictment investigations and negotiations with government agencies, through trials and appeals. Myles has experience defending clients against a wide range of allegations by state and federal agencies, including bank, computer, wire, and mail fraud, money laundering, and other business crimes. He has also conducted complex domestic and cross-border internal investigations. In 2025, Myles was named one of The National Black Lawyers' Top 40 Under 40 Black Lawyers in Washington, DC.
Prior to joining Steptoe, Myles served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, where he investigated and prosecuted a wide variety of matters ranging from violent crimes and firearms offenses to cybercrimes, hate crimes, and complex financial frauds. As a prosecutor, he conducted several jury trials, attained verdicts in each of them, and secured numerous criminal dispositions involving fines, asset forfeitures, and restitution.
Myles has extensive experience leading pre-arrest and grand jury investigations, including collecting documents and developing facts through subpoenas and search warrants, among other investigative techniques. He has prevailed in arguing motions and conducting evidentiary hearings and is adept in handling plea negotiations, proffers, and sensitive witness interviews. With firsthand knowledge of how prosecutors think, Myles leverages his experience to assist clients targeted by government agencies avoid and mitigate legal and reputational risks and achieve positive outcomes.
During law school, Myles worked as a legal intern in the World Bank Group's Office of Suspension and Debarment, served as a law clerk to the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, and served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Judge Andrew L. Carter, Jr. on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

- Representation of a medical care practice and its CEO in an internal investigation and in connection with responding to subpoenas and related inquiries from various law enforcement and regulatory authorities.
- Representation of a prominent financial institution on matters concerning third-party subpoena responses in connection with a DOJ sanctions evasion investigation.
- Successfully defended former senior executive of a prominent private equity firm in a computer crime prosecution by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. This included drafting a dispositive motion which led to the dismissal of all charges weeks before the trial.
