Even if there wasn't a Presidential and Congressional election going on, this is a time of transition in Puerto Rico. A new Governor and newly appointed members of the Federal Oversight and Management Board (FOMB) will be in place over the next two months. Join Steptoe for the next program in our Post-Election Recap series that will focus on how these two events will have a profound effect on the economic outlook for Puerto Rico.

On top of a change in the Presidency and, most particularly a Democratic sweep would have a material effect on Federal Government policy as it relates to Puerto Rico, including the restructuring process, hurricane and disaster relief, US Treasury's potential adjustments to the credibility of Act 154 excise tax payments, statehood and other issues. Also, if Pedro Pierluisi is elected Governor and Jenniffer Gonzalez is reelected as Resident Commissioner (Congresswoman) they will make up a bipartisan statehood party team to manage the changes in Washington. This could affect economic development aid going to Puerto Rico, tax policy, supply chain, manufacturing incentives, statehood issues, Medicaid, disaster relief, etc.
