Overview
Shannon Reid is a member of Steptoe's Commercial Trials & Litigation group, where her practice primarily includes complex commercial litigation, data privacy, and employment matters.
Shannon counsels and defends corporate entities in various complex commercial litigation disputes (including, but not limited to, breach of contract and tort disputes). As a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US), Shannon counsels multinational clients on various data privacy and security matters, including but not limited to, drafting privacy policies and notices, evaluating risks in corporate transactions, and implementing complaint technical/administrative practices under various US federal and state data privacy laws. Shannon also advises clients on employment-related investigations and litigation matters.
Prior to joining Steptoe, Shannon clerked for the Honorable Raymond A. Jackson in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

- Advised online educational technology services company on implementation of comprehensive data privacy program, including drafting a privacy notice and counseling on data mapping, deletion, retention, targeted advertising, risk assessments, and data requests.
- Counseled direct-to-consumer genetic testing company on compliance with various federal, state, and local laws regulating the collection, use, and disclosure of genetic, biometric, and/or health data.
- Represented testing services company in biometric data class action litigation.
- Advised an ultra-high-net-worth individual on pursuing claims for defamation and invasion of privacy.
- Represented pharmaceutical company in defamation, malicious prosecution, and unfair competition litigation.
- Represented mining company in tortious interference with contract litigation.
- Represented lighting company in breach of contract litigation.
- Represented higher education client in employment litigation from inception through arbitration hearing and assisted in all phases of litigation, including dispositive motion drafting, taking/defending depositions, witness examinations, and post-hearing briefing.
- Conducted an internal investigation for a multinational insurance company regarding the issuance of fraudulent trade credit insurance policies by a former senior executive.
- Secured favorable settlement on behalf of plaintiff, a former government employee, in federal employment litigation matter.
