Overview
Yumiko advises clients across a range of sectors on matters relating to competition law and EU regulatory issues. Her particular experience lies in dealing with antitrust issues, cartel investigations, competition litigation, merger control, international trade, regulatory and EU export/import regulation.
She has worked on a number of the European Commission's investigations involving major Japanese companies. She has also provided training on competition law compliance where focus is on how to assess and avoid risks of infringing EU competition rules.
Prior to joining Steptoe, Yumiko was an official within the EU Economic Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo, where she was engaged in the negotiation, drafting and legal verification of the Japan–EU Economic Partnership Agreement and also in matters relating to dealings with the UK authorities.
