Mr. Soussan is a partner in the Brussels office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP and a member of the firm's Insurance and International Regulation and Compliance practice groups. 

Insurance

With more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Soussan has advised extensively on EU regulatory, legal, tax, antitrust, international trade and compliance issues for insurers, reinsurers, captives, intermediaries and other financial sector entities in all classes of insurance and reinsurance (life, health, property and casualty, etc.).  He assists leading international financial groups in pursuing a pan-European expansion strategy and trade associations in securing effective implementation of Single Market rules.

Prior to joining Steptoe, he established and led the EU insurance regulatory practice of another leading law firm in Brussels. 

He maintains close contacts with the European institutions and national supervisory authorities and is a frequent contributor to insurance industry and legal publications and a regular speaker at international conferences.

Export Control

Mr. Soussan advises clients on various aspects of EU and French export controls and sanctions regulations, including controls and licensing regimes for both military and commercial products and technologies. He has conducted internal compliance audits, provided assistance on company compliance programs, and counseled clients on the application of the rules to specific transactions. He also provides assistance on EU data protection and privacy issues, including in the context of internal investigations and regulatory compliance. In addition, he advises multinational clients on all aspects of customs law including customs valuation, rules of origin, preferential regimes and post clearance recovery of customs duties.
